The National Minimum Wage is increasing significantly from 1 April 2024 so you need to carefully check you have increased your employees wages to bring them in line with the new rates.
With those on an hourly rate this is easy to update but for those employees paid a monthly salary you do need to check that these are increased to meet the new minimum wage.
Also, HMRC have got rid of the 21 to 22 category meaning that these employees are going from £10.18 to £11.44 per hour – an increase of 12.4%
This means that the national minimum wage for all staff 21 and over is £11.44.
Here are the new rates from 1 April 2024:
| 21 and over | £11.44 |
| 18 to 20 | £8.60 |
| Under 18 | £6.40 |
| Apprentice | £6.40 |
And the old rates were:
| 23 and over | £10.42 |
| 21 to 22 | £10.18 |
| 18 to 20 | £7.49 |
| Under 18 | £5.28 |
| Apprentice | £5.28 |
Where we do the payroll for you, we will query with you any salaries we think don’t meet the new rates.
If you do your own payroll and what to check with us that you are paying at least the national minimum wage then please give us a call.
